Present & Previous.

Alternative Influence was formed in 1998 by Lee Devenport.

"I am an artist/activist that is dedicated 168 hours a week to addressing the cause I feel passionate about. I see no separation in both these roles and feel they naturally cross over."

" Words have always been my forte and the lyrics tend to fall into place quite easily. I see music as a vehicle and another avenue to try and make a difference. I pull no punches and shoot from the lip. I lead from the front and ask of others nothing I am
not prepared to do myself.
"

The Story So Far:
The first 3 years were a revolving door of musicians in-musicians out- things haven't changed much! Musicians Are Morons!- if the cap fits, wear it.

In late 2000 a 5 track EP- In The Land Of Greed And Money there is an ALTERNATIVE INFLUENCE- was recorded at Caleche Studios in Leeds . Eighteen months later – the subsequent recordings are much sought after and have become collectors items in parts of Europe and Asia. In 2003 the ‘band' eventually got out on to the road, with further songs still being recorded in Leeds . In 2004 a re-mix of It's Happenin Again at Chill Studios in Stockport by Alan Wrench saw much needed progress- Radio Airplay, better reviews and the decision to record a ‘debut' album. From October 04 to October 05 the masterpiece is created!-

Apathy , Cynicism and Complacency are the enemies of change!

During this period White label releases of Recruiting For The Cause/Never Be Lost Again see further good reviews, more airplay and Never Be Lost Again spending much of the year 2005 in the Radio Six Top 10 in their Record Of The Year as voted for by listeners(eventually finishing no.12). 2006 begins with the shooting of the video for Recruiting For The Cause with renown film director Jean Paul Bankes Mercer. The video is play-listed on Kerrang music channel but subsequently withdrawn when programmers learn of the use of the A.L.F. (Animal Liberation Front) symbols in the video. The start of a long war of censorship begins.)

The release of the single Take A Look Inside/That’s Why Nothings Changed being avaliable in serveral inde' stores.

The Video for Take A Look Inside being shot by Jean Paul Bankes Mercer was play-listed on Bubble Hits TV- Sky Channel 374.It was also shown on the in-store TV Channel of Top Shop retail stores nationwide and played on the Club Com Europe Health Club TV network including the Fitness First and L.A. Fitness Gyms throughout Europe.

Having headlined Manchester’s famous Night ‘n’ Day club for the video/single release of Take A Look Inside, Headlined The Cavern in Liverpool, Played at Londons renown Dublin Castle venue in Camden. Supported The Blockheads(formley Ian Dury and The Blockheads) & Neville Staples (formely of The Specials) at the Darwen Live Festival. With Radio Airplay in both the UK and USA on the likes of Radio 6, Sky, Radio 2xs and Radio Caroline stations. Are things on the ‘verge of mainstream recognition’?

The subsequent announcement in July 2007 of a new double sided single being recorded with Chris Brown (produced Radiohead, Starsailor, Beatles anthrologies to list but a few of his long list of credits) certainly suggested so - a lack of funds and ongoing metal health issues prevented it going ahead.

WE WILL NOT BE SILENCED, WE WILL FIND A WAY.- The 2007 single- Manchester/Lost The Real You is earmarked for recording in summer 2010. Much hard hitting and revealing art will be displayed. ALTERNATIVE INFLUENCE IS BACK!!!!- Watch This Space!- ;REJECT THE MAINSTREAM, EMBRACE THE ALTERNATIVE

The Way Forward! - I am the heart and soul of ALTERNATIVE INFLUENCE

Musicians may come and go, but I will remain and continue to do what I believe in- Establishing the ALTERNATIVE INFLUENCE brand as a subversive, progressive, innovative art form that retains its integrity and refuses to compromise in its portrayal of the truth- something which today's society often sees to difficult to handle.

Richard Ritchie who hails from Bradford became involved with the band in late 2000, recording all the bass on the debut EP and all subsequent recordings. last gig on 13th April,2006-The Cavern.

Richard has a massive wealth of experience (and amazing talent) that has seen him previously work with the likes of Tasmin Archer and Chantelle McGregor- it best being fully covered in his own words here - https://sites.google.com/site/bassplayerritchie/home/news/dates/my-story Rich is currently an integral part of the Winachi Tribe- headed by ex-ian brown percussionist supremo Inder Goldfinger-Inder also put percussion on the first Caleche Studio mix of the track It's Happenin Again- released as a single on white label and still available (green tinted CD sleeve) https://www.facebook.com/thewinachitribe Richard co-wrote some of the best Alternative Influence songs with Tony Grantham & Les Coleman- Take A Look Inside, Insignificant, Thats Why Nothings Changed AND Recruiting For The Cause with LD,Fluff and Les Coleman.

Recruited September 2003.
"My full name is Anthony Paul Grantham. I played in a band called Marion, who were signed to London Records for about six or seven years. We toured with Morrisey (on the World of Morrisey tour) and Radiohead (on The Bends tour). I've also had the experience (and pleasure) of playing and recording with Johnny Marr.

Last involved December 2005.

Anthony Paul Grantham AKA Tony Grantham and Beard. Went onto form the bands Chalk and RYNA and is currently with the band The Mu-Tones . Beard is now displaying a brilliantly cool vocal as well as his incredible guitar playing. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qXggTb3cy18 Tony deserves much credit for using his vast musical experience with helping LD in his development in playing live and recording.

Leslie Coleman joined Alternative Influence in 2000. Left by ‘mutual consent’ in March 2004.

Les was a truly great drummer and key player in the Engineering, Production and Recording of the EP In The Land of Greed & Money-which has been an especially good seller in the Japanese marketplace- also Les played a massive part in the recruitment of Richard Ritchie,Inder, Fluff and the strategic path that the band took in playing live and being able to rehearse and record at Caleche Studios in Leeds. Les has since gone on to establish himself as a sought-after Producer & Mixer under the name of LC Coleman

David Fortune or Fluff as he likes to be and is better known. Played lead and rytham guitar parts on the recording of the single- They Said, You Said / Rock'n'Roll Cliché and was lead guitarist from September 02 to May 03. By 'mutual consent' he was then allowed to concentrate solely on his various covers projects.

David most successful covers project being in touring Europe with the amazing Pink Floyd covers band called Off The Wall https://en-gb.facebook.com/140432389849/videos/vb.140432389849/391761184024/?type=2&theater

Kev Creed played all lead and rytham guitar parts on the recording of the EP 'In The Land Of Greed And Money'. Kev went off to form his own band 'Larry' in 2001 with Gav Allen, who himself prior to the emergence of Les and Richie was briefly the bass player in the band. The band Larry has now evolved in to Lazi Jane with them still going strong at the heart of it.- http://www.lazijane.co.uk/
